FAQ

What's the meaning of a self drive tour?

It’s the combination of 3 elements: car rental, accommodations and a predetermined itinerary. There is no driver and no guide. You plan your days as you like.

How can I personalize my itinerary?

When filling out the reservation form, you have the option of: choosing your car, upgrading accommodations, and modifying your itinerary or length of stay.

Can I pay using my own currency?

FranceTriptailor is a French company and therefore all prices are in euros. Your currency will automatically be converted into euros with respect to your bank’s exchange policy.

Can I choose the type of room I would like ?

Yes. When you fill in your online booking form, you can specify the type of room and bed you would like: double, twin, single, etc.

What do I need to drive in France ?

Ideally, you need to have an international driver’s license (for non EEc members). However, there could be a driver’s license agreement between your country and France. Please find out about this before you leave.

What happens if I have to cancel my reservation ?

Triptailor’s policy is clear: 15 days prior to departure, no fee (but tickets that have been issued will not be reimbursed). Less than 15 days prior to departure, no refund is given unless you have purchased our cancellation insurance. In this case, you will be fully reimbursed, no matter what the reason might be for cancellation.

What type of clothing do I need ?

The type of clothing you need will depend upon the season and the region you decide to visit. In any case, you should  bring clothes and shoes that are comfortable for you to walk in. And even in summer, make sure you have something to protect yourself from the rain.

What documents do I need to bring with me?

You should have: a valid passport, a visa (if needed), an international driver’s license and updated vaccinations, if applicable to you.

Can I use my own car ?

Yes. In this case, the car rental rate is deducted from the total cost of your trip. You are, therefore, covered by your own car insurance company according to the terms of your contract.

Will my cell phone work in France ?

It all depends on the type of cell phone subscription you have, and whether or not you can make and receive calls in France. If you can, be aware that it is often very expensive to use foreign cell phones in France. FranceTriptailor, therefore, recommends you consult your cell phone provider.  You may wish to purchase a French SIM card to reduce the cost of your calls.

Is there a price breakdown ?

A price breakdown is included with each itinerary and its detailed description.

Your trips are expensive !

It has been our experience that if you want quality, you have to pay for it. Prices are calculated to include, not only the cost of the itineraries, but also the time spent preparing them, transportation costs to and from sites and services provided. If you have the quality you expect, then prices will be of lesser importance.

How can I get a discount ?

Discounts are given on trips that are booked more than three months prior to departure date.

You can get to most starting points by train, and in some cases, by plane. Triptailor can reserve tickets and make hotel  reservations for you before and after your itinerary.
